Kogi State Governments To Take Over KSU Over Failed Security Challenges .

An interview with comrade Ajibodi Muniru, the national director of action and mobilisation of National association of Nigerian students (NANS) national, an advocate of social change, a political back-up to a SUG Governorship aspirant Abdulkareem Mohammed (AKisOKAY).

As a political back up for Abdulkareen Mohammed (AKisOKAY), we would like to know how far have you gone with the campaign?

COMRADE AJIBODE MUNIRU : in student unionism, there are 3 ethics which are consultation, consolidation and confrontation. The issue of consultation of appropriate authorities has been settled, we are in tebstage of consolidation and in no distant time from now, we will be in the stage of confrontation proper

Of recent, we heard of the endorsement of Governor Yahaya Bello (GYB) for second term tenure by NANS led by comrade Hussein Attaja. Sir, we will appreciate if you shed more light on this.

COMRADE AJIBODI MUNIRU: actually, the leadership of national association of Nigeria student (NANS) is sub divided in various arm. The endorsement is based on infrastructural development, and not to be economical about the truth, the governor has done his best to make sure that student are kept on campus unlike before where institutions in kogi state embark on strike at will. The endorsement is based on the fact that student are on campus, writing exams as at when due, and lot of other things that are right for the student. I would say that comrade Hussein Attaja, the chairman of NANS, his executives, and the SUG took their time out to outline the landstrides. The decision to formally endorse Governor Yahaya Bello was not that of NANS alone, but of Igala student association (ISA), national association of Okun student (NAOS) and national association of ebira student (NAES). I want to appeal to students to be calm and follow things chronologically the way its supposed to be.

About the issue of Bursary payment. In past days, we have heard few students claiming to have received their bursary while a large percentage of students still hope the same sun shines on them. Sir, can you ascertain the validity of the report about Government Bursary?.

COMRADE AJIBODI MUNIRU: actually, as a board of trustee member, a member of the bursary state committee under the state government, I want to ascertain that those who registered for 2018/2019 bursary allocation that some have received their payment, anyone who is yet to receive should lay complain at the bursary office which is located in lokoja. Then we can say that anyone who did not receive bursary payment had issues during the registration. I can testify because few students have come to me that they have received their bursary payment. Thank you

Sir, being in this university community for the past few days, you must have heard about security challenges where students can't sleep in peace even in school hostels which we all think is safeguard, students can't still sleep with their two eyes closed. Earlier this week , we heard about a lady who was hit in the chest by a Robber in the middle of the night inside Inikpi hostel, upper week; there was also an attack at a female hostel opposite the school clinic, serious cases of attacks and oppression in the male hostel, series of gunshot on and off campus and dead threats. Sir, what's your view on all of this happenings and which measure is NANS taking to tackle this challenges?.

COMRADE AJIBODI MUNIR; thank you very much, this is a pathetic and very emotional issue. It is no longer news but a syndrome and a barrier. In an academic community where security is porous and not guaranteed, I don't think students will go about their primary assignment. Imagine  student attending lectures and writing examination with the anxiety of what awaits him/her. At the level of unions, I want to condemn or abuse that the student union of Kogi state university is not living up to its expectation. The vote student casted for them that elected them to various position has been taken for granted, you don't expect the school management to take on security issues upon their selves, the SUG should be the pushing force behind security issues but since they have failed in their responsibility, I think it is the responsibility of the National association of Nigerian students (NANS) governing the entire students in the country and as the director of action and mobilization, I'm not saying I ll mobilise student against the school management but I'm crying out to government parastatal and school management to equip the school security unit. I woke up this morning to the sad news of a graduate of sociology who just finished his defense that was killed. There's no adequate man power in kogi state university, we are appealing to the star government to increase the availability of man power in the university, it is not bad to have a police post inside the campus, but the problem is that the security organisation extort student in one way or the other, they should curb criminality and stop the harassment of students. Its true that we have dress code in our institution, I won't support indecent dressing inside the campus but you don't accuse a student of being a cultist for putting on a timberland shoe; that is defamation of character. I want to appeal to government at all level to stand up to this fight against criminality within and outside the university community. Thank you.

Thanks for the enlightenment sir. When you started this interview, you made mention of being part of the campaign team of Abdulkareem Mohammed Idegu (AKisOkay). Can you give us a broader view of AkisOkay?

COMRADE AJIBODE MUNIRU: you see, AKisOkay as a person, I don't want to ve economical with the truth, we all have our personal views on issues and him as a person is Someone that is concerned about his student. AkisOkay is someone that is close to me, he is very principled, straightforward, steadfast and he consult a lot before taking decision. As a leader, there are certain qualities you need to possess  which is that of being a good follower. AkisOkay has been following trends of leadership from the beginning. I believe AkisOkay is out for development and record making, not that of embezzling money but a record that people will live to remember in years to come. AkisOkay is not full of himself, he is friendly, he always consult before taking decisions, not only me, he consults even people below him and I would say that without fear or favour that he is in good relationship with other SUG aspirant, he doesn't criticised l anyone inasmuch that he is criticise, he keeps his calm. On security issues, AkisOkay in his own kind gesture did some voluntary support to the victims of this attacks addressing the issue of security challenges. He also has a good relationship with the security apptatus here in anyigba. I'm aware that he met and discussed with Naval officers at Okura, they gave him their contact incase of any security issues or rancour within or outside the school premises that he should place a call to them but one can't do this things alone, We have the school security unit here  and as a student, we have our own pivotal issues. Our power is still limited for now. AKisOKAY. As NANS director of action and mobilization, I still want to cry out to all security agencies and management of kogi state university to stand upright and tackle this challenges and if they don't do it, I think I have no other option than to relocate the entire Secretariat of NANS to kogi state university where student will occupy the whole of classrooms, all student across the 36 states including the FCT, propel the NANS president to question the school management on their security and iron it out. I appeal to all student to stay calm, not to indulge in cultism, shun social vices, shun exam malpractice, moral decadence but to face their primary assignment.

Thank you. in brief, what's your messge to the students as they approach Examination?.

COMRADE AJIBODE MUNIRU: when things fall apart, the center will no longer hold. At this point a time, students should settle down and read rather than finding other means to pass. Students should shun exam malpractice. Any student caught in exam malpractice, I ll be a strong advocate of his/her expulsion.

Thank you. You should wish the Muslim student happy Ramadan Kareem as they approach the last day of their fasting?.

COMRADE AJIBODE MUNIRU : as a Muslim, I want to say this fasting era has made some of us to abstain from many things. We thank God that we are approaching eid-el-fitri. I want to use this medium to congratulate all Muslim students "ummah" from the national down to the state. I pray that as so many of us that have travelled and those that are about to travel; I pray that God will take us home and bring us back safe to our respective campuses.
